What is screed in construction?

Screed in normally poured onto of existing concrete or insulation allowing for flooring finishes to be applied. The screed can be applied using one of three methods bonded, unbonded and floating depending on the project requirements.

When laid by professionals, screed achieves a guaranteed flatness with a maximum of 1-3mm deviation across the floor in comparison to self-levelling compounds.

Much like concrete, screed is mixed on-site and pumped into the required location, where it is then spread using specialist tools to ensure there are no inconsistencies such as air bubbles.
